In Class: Today, we set goals for the 2nd quarter and had a great discussion about the importance of being organized and having a plan! Kids who learned about Hammurabi during their mini-research project shared their findings with everyone. We read a "combination article" (literally pieces of other articles that I cut-and-glued on a sheet of graph paper!) about Hammurabi and his Code. The article is linked here and here. Cores 1, 2, and 3 started working on a notes pages related to Hammurabi--and these core classes will finish these notes tomorrow. Core 4 will start and finish the notes page tomorrow as well.
Homework: Begin to study for unit test that is coming up on Friday, November 8th. The study guide for this test can be found here. The QUIZLET for our Mesopotamia test can be found here!

In Class: .Students finished their notes on Hammurabi and his Code today. The completed notes page should look similar to my notes page. Next, we discussed the importance of culture, cultural expression, and values--because it was these things that were reflected in the achievements of the Mesopotamian people. Students sorted the different achievements into categories--for example, the wheel, the plow, and the sailboat could fall in a category titled Transportation. Students then took notes on these achievements--the notes came from today's slides and are linked here. Core 4 will finish this activity tomorrow.
Homework: Complete the Mesopotamia Leader Information Sheet and organizer linked here. It will be collected on Wednesday for a 10% grade (for completion and accuracy). Study for unit test that is coming up on Friday, November 8th.

In Class: Today's focus was on religion in ancient Mesopotamia. We read a compilation of articles about the polytheistic religion of this region (page 1 and page 2 of article). We then discussed how the religious beliefs of these early people influenced their everyday lives. Cores 3 and 4 also finished taking notes on Mesopotamian achievements.
Homework: Study for unit test that is coming up on Friday, November 8th.
